If you follow me on instagram you will no doubt have seen me posting about my recent trip to Birmingham. This was my 3rd trip to the city in just over a year, and it’s firmly in the top 5 of my favourite UK cities. The purpose of this trip was a girls night away. A chance to relax, catch up with 3 of my closest friends, and then return home feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Slight exaggeration with the refreshed part, after the weekend involved bottomless cocktails and of course gin.
We chose Birmingham as our getaway as one of our friends lives just outside Bristol, and the train journey was around 90 minutes for us all.… Continue reading
I recently went away with 2 of my closest friends, for a much needed girlie weekend away to Birmingham. We chose the city as we wanted somewhere easily accessible by train, and being 1 hour and 20 minutes away from Cheshire, Birmingham seemed the perfect place.
After a stressful morning which involved daughter having a huge nose bleed, we were on the 8.52am train. My stress soon disappeared once we were on the move, and the journey passed quickly due to us chatting non stop. We arrived into New Street Station just before 10.30am, and wow what a station. It has the fantastic Grand Central which overlooks the station.… Continue reading
Last weekend we headed off to Blackpool for our first adventure of the summer holidays. Blackpool is only an hour from where we live in Cheshire, and ever since Katie went to the Pleasure Beach in February, she has been desperate to return. We decided we would make a night of it, and there was only one place we all wanted to stay….. The Big Blue Hotel.
We have never stayed in the Big Blue Hotel before, and to be honest I didn’t really know what to expect. Blackpool is notorious for hen and stag parties, and I wondered whether the hotel would be full of people dressed in various fancy dress themes.… Continue reading
I was recently given the challenge by Superbreak of exploring a city in 48 hours, and I had no hesitation in choosing the historic city of Chester. We live 25 minutes away from this beautiful city, but there is so much that Chester has to offer that we have never experienced. Chester is a city full of variety, from ancient walls to modern and vibrant restaurants. So what did we get up to during our 48 hours.
Where we stayed
The Chester Grosvenor is located right next to the famous Eastgate Clock, and is a luxurious 5* hotel. You are literally in the heart of the City, but The Grosvenor provides a calm and tranquil place to stay.… Continue reading
The other weekend I was lucky to be whisked off to Carden Park Hotel, which is nestled in the beautiful Cheshire countryside. This was our 3rd visit to the hotel, and I was really excited to be going back as I knew the Spa had been updated since our last visit.
From the moment you turn into Carden Park you know you are somewhere really special, and the first glimpse of the hotel always takes my breathe away. Rooms are either located in the main hotel or in the courtyard outside. We were given directions to our room in the main hotel, but when we got inside I could tell from my husband’s face something was wrong.… Continue reading
For the husbands birthday back in October, I surprised him with tickets to a John Newman gig and a night away in Manchester. We spent just over 24 hours away, and we definitely packed in as much as we could. The concert was in the middle of Manchester. However, I opted to stay at a Premier Inn at The Trafford Centre, as we were heading there the following day.
So on Sunday afternoon after kissing the kids goodbye, we headed off around 1.30pm ready for our 2pm check in time. We quickly unpacked and we were soon heading into the city centre.… Continue reading
As its nearing the end of the year my thoughts are turning to our holiday plans for 2016. One place we would love to visit is London. We have taken the children on day trips to the capital, but we have never stayed overnight. I would love to experience London at night. Maybe catch a show and then head for a stroll along the South Bank, taking in the beautiful sights of London.
We would usually opt for a hotel stay, if we were heading for a city break with the kids. But as the kids are getting older now, and needing their own space, a hotel does not really suit our needs anymore. … Continue reading
Last weekend we headed off for our 2nd adventure of the summer holidays. Well when I say headed off, I mean we got in the car and drove for 10 minutes. Which is actually a good thing as the teen had ONE job to do…. bring his bag. Guess what he forgot? We may have only stayed local, but our one night glamping certainly recharged our batteries. We started camping around 6 years ago, and over time our camping trips have taken a more luxurious turn. No more hushed arguments with the husband as we battle with the tent in the wind and rain (I swear I have never returned to Anglesey after THAT trip).… Continue reading
This weekend has been an extended one as hubby and I had a night away on Thursday night. The minute I finished work we were on the M56 heading to the Trafford Centre. I had booked my favourite Premier inn at the bargain cost of £39.00, and we were quickly checked in and the bags were in the room. We had planned to go to the local David Lloyd for a swim, but I received an email inviting us to a fantastic event at the Trafford Centre. Well it would have been rude to turn it down as we were already there.… Continue reading
For my birthday in January my lovely husband surprised me with a night away. He even booked my mum in to have the kids ! So last Friday we headed to the Doubletree Hotel in Chester, 20 minutes from where we live. We had been to the Doubletree twice before to use the spa facilities but never stayed over. First thing I loved about the hotel is warm cookies at check in. How ace is that. We were directed to our room on the ground floor and I was met with this
Oliver Suite at the Doubletree Chester
Top brownie points awarded to the husband.… Continue reading
