Little Loves – Winter Capes, Christmas Markets and Wrapping Presents

Another two weeks has passed since my last Little Loves. The mocks have finally finished and the teen seems to have handled them pretty well. He has been working incredibly hard, and I hope this is reflected in his mock results.

Little Loves

Husband and I spent a lovely day in Chester on Wednesday. For the first 2 hours it was all about the Christmas shopping, and I was like a woman possessed. Once the bags had been deposited back to the car it was time to wander around the Christmas markets. And of course I had my first mulled wine of the season.

Lots of menus as it has been one of those weeks where we have hardly used our kitchen. At the weekend we met up with family and enjoyed a lovely lunch out. Then Monday I went out for dinner with two of my besties, Tuesday was a trip to Frankie and Bennys to celebrate the end of the mocks. And Wednesday hubby and I spent the day in Chester and went for lunch at The Alchemist which was amazing. Note to self, must discover the kitchen again.

Watched

We started watching series three of The Affair as I currently have NOW TV free for the month. I loved  the previous two series, but series three was really disappointing. So disappointing that we stopped watching it after four episodes, which is not like us to stop something half way through. Other than The Affair we have been watching The Apprentice with the kids. It’s one of the few programmes that we all watch together, and I swear my kids could do better than some of the contestants. Oh and we all agree that Elizabeth is comedy gold.

The Affair

Heard

Annie songs. Katie has been singing her heart out ahead of the big school production which is over 3 nights next week. She is so excited to be Drake (The butler), and she has been in school until 6pm most evenings, and she is back in all weekend to rehearse. I am sure I will be a very proud mum when I watch it next week.

Made

I ‘made’ a start on the wrapping. The inlaws are visiting this weekend and will be taking presents back to South Wales, so I needed to be organised. I am one of those weird people who actually enjoy wrapping, and yes that is my ironing board you can see. SO much easier wrapping presents this way, and saves a bad back all over Christmas.

The winter cape is out, much to the amusement of the kids who said I looked like a middle aged batman. I picked it up in Tesco last year, and it had its first outing of the season on Monday when I met friends for dinner.

And lastly

We have the inlaws visiting this weekend which will hopefully be a fairly chilled weekend. We have a meal planned for Saturday evening (what did I just say about rediscovering my kitchen), and it will be nice to catch up with them. Have a lovely weekend whatever you are up too x

  1. Well, I happen to think your cape looks wonderful and I’m drawing no similarities to BatMan at all. Your wrapping is beautiful, I wish I was that organised – I’ve barely started the shopping yet! Slightly panicking… Hope your little one’s show goes well next week! x

    • Thank you very much Donna, I must admit it is something different to what I would normally wear but I love it. She is so excited for the show which starts tomorrow and she has been practising hard all weekend x

  2. Oh, that’s a shame about The Affair. I’ve not started on season three yet but just got a free Now TV pass with my new phone contract so must bump it up the list. I started watching it because I love Joshua Jackson and missed Dawson’s Creek and Fringe.

    • Ah I must admit I loved seeing Joshua Jackson in it as used to love Dawson’s Creek. It’s worth trying it if you have a free pass, it just wasn’t for us which was a shame x

    • I must admit it was nice to have some home cooked food made in my own kitchen for a change this evening lol. But I do love going out for tea, especially when the key to getting a teen boy out of his cave is by feeding him x

  3. Wow your ironing board idea is inspired, I’m going to give it a go, hot plate for scissors, sellotape etc. and lots of room to measure out, thanks for the idea. I think the cape looks really stylish, a nice alternative to a coat. Hope your festive season continues as well as it’s started in this post.

    • Exactly that…. I put little strips of sellotape hanging from the hot plate and plenty of room for wrapping big and small presents. I think I need to go on Dragons Den with it lol x

    • Do your Christmas shopping online which makes more time for the markets. Hope you get to Chester to enjoy the festive atmosphere x

  4. Your cape looks fab Tracey ! Wow to that quality of wrapping, I just throw sellotape at presents ad hope it sticks. It sounds like you have had an amazing week full of culinary delights. Good luck to Katie, I do love the musical Annie x

    • Ah thanks Angela, the cape only comes out at this time of year so I need to get my wear out of it. Katie is loving Annie and is sad that it’s the last night this evening. I am really weird as I love wrapping presents lol x

    • Ha you know how cheeky teens and tweens can be, but what do they know eh. I have been pretty focused this year but I think that’s because we are going away just before Christmas and I need to be all done before we go. Still have a few more things to get, but everything I have is all wrapped now x

  6. Love your tip for wrapping! I’m definitely going to give that a try, much better than being sat on the floor like I usually end up doing.
The cape looks gorgeous on you, you can’t beat a little bit of glamour for this time of year. xx

    • Honestly it will change your wrapping experience Morgana, no more bad backs. I think I have wrapped more on mine than I have ironed lately x

  7. A middle aged Batman! Your two sound as cheeky as mine. Love that idea for wrapping, I may have to give it a go. I always seem to end up either on the floor or on my bed, neither of which are particularly comfortable and absolutely kill my back. Glad your son’s mocks went ok. My daughter started hers yesterday. Hope you’re having a good week! x

    • The ironing board method is a game changer. Hope your daughter is coping well with her mocks. Why do they always have them on top of Christmas x

  8. Oh yes, wrapping presents nearly kills me – sitting on the floor for hours! I love your gold star wrapping paper, where is it from? Gorgeous. I feel like I’ve still got so much to do for Christmas, one day at a time eh? Your cape looks fab and I’m all for going out to eat every night if it saves me cooking but we still have to cook for the kids! My daugher’s mocks are still going on, pleased to see that your son did a lot of revision, my daughter has done very little and is now discovering the consequences!

    • It’s from Asda and I can’t even take any credit for it as the hubby picked it up. I wouldn’t normally trust him to buy paper (is it just me who spends ages looking for the right paper) but they were presents for his family. Hope your daughter is coping well with the mocks. He really surprised me with how much revision he has been doing, and still is doing even though they are over now until more mocks in February. They do occasionally shock us from time to time lol x

  9. Well done to your boy for all his hard work in the mocks. I know Annie went well too, so you must be a very proud mummy! I’m always jealous of people who eat out a lot, I’d love to do that, but our kids are too fussy and it always ends up being a stressful experience.

    • Ah what a shame you have a stressful experience eating out. Morgan is fairly fussy too, but if there is a burger on the menu we should be ok. I must admit we probably eat out a little too much x
