Weekend away with the girls for £100

If you follow me on instagram you will no doubt have seen me posting about my recent trip to Birmingham. This was my 3rd trip to the city in just over a year, and it’s firmly in the top 5 of my favourite UK cities. The purpose of this trip was a girls night away. A chance to relax, catch up with 3 of my closest friends, and then return home feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Slight exaggeration with the refreshed part, after the weekend involved bottomless cocktails and of course gin.

Weekend away with the girls

We chose Birmingham as our getaway as one of our friends lives just outside Bristol, and the train journey was around 90 minutes for us all. Plus I had been on a girls trip to Birmingham last year, and the city is perfect for a weekend of dining and drinking. Within 30 minutes of arriving at New Street station, we were in the hotel bar and sampling the gins on offer. Well at £6.80 for TWO gin and tonics, it would have been rude not to. Plus we were waiting for the arrival of our other 2 friends who came on a later train after they finished work.

We had booked 2 twin rooms at the AC Marriott hotel, and this was my second time staying here. I can’t recommend the hotel enough, not only for its fantastic location in The Mailbox, but the amazing service from every single member of staff. We paid £85.00 per room which included breakfast, and when your room comes complete with robes, slippers and complimentary water, you know you picked a great hotel.

That evening we were booked into the Marco Pierre White restaurant which was literally 1 minute walk from the hotel. This was great planning as our evening included bottomless Bellinis, meaning we could crawl back to the hotel if need be. Our waiter Baz ensured that we were suitably topped up with Bellinis throughout the night, and we made our way through the Bellini menu as best we could. I think there were around 10 to choose from, but to be honest my mind went a little hazy after the first 3.

Thankfully we also had a delicious 2 course dinner to mop up the alcohol, and after a lovely evening drinking, chatting, eating and catching up it was time to head back to the hotel. Not before we had a selfie with a young Marco. And incase you were wondering, none of us had to crawl back to the hotel…. high five.

After a leisurely breakfast the next morning, we wandered along the canal stopping at a few places for a soft drink (I think we all had our fill of alcohol the night before). And what better way to finish a girls weekend than with afternoon tea. This was back at the hotel and my friend had got a brilliant deal with living social, £24 for 2 at the AC Marriott. I must admit it was one of the best afternoon teas I have ever tasted. Not only did you get the usual finger sandwiches, but also wraps too. All washed down with tea and coffee.

Afternoon Tea

All too soon our weekend was over and we were heading home, buzzing with ideas about our next getaway. Our 2 days in Birmingham had been an absolute bargain, and huge thank you to Vicky who booked our afternoon tea and dinner through Living Social.

AC Marriott hotel with breakfast £42.50

2 course dinner with bottomless Bellini’s at Marco Pierre White £19.50

Afternoon tea at the AC Marriott hotel £12.00

Train from Cheshire £19.75

Total £93.75

It just goes to show that you can have a luxury weekend away for less than £100 per person. Thanks ladies for a brilliant weekend x

  1. That’s a great bargain weekend away. I’m going away for the weekend next weekend with some friends. We’re staying in a cottage and self catering, so will save money a little there.

    • Ah thanks Sue. It was a great trip just as ours was, and yes the hotel was more central than the one we stayed in last year. Both good hotels though x
