5 things on my Playroom Wish List

After years of being on the ‘DIY to do list’ our playroom is finally getting a makeover. The mint green walls have gone and have been replaced with ‘chic shadow’ grey, and I’ve had fun creating our playroom for older kids. The border with pastel animals on has been ripped down, and the brightly coloured storage boxes have gone to a new home.

With the kids getting older, we wanted the playroom to be more of a second living room. It will still need to house all of daughter’s toys and dolls she still loves to play with. So I created a Wish List of things I want for our new playroom for older kids.

Playroom Wish List

1 – Somewhere to sit

As the new playroom will have a TV, we need somewhere comfy to sit but doesn’t take up too much room. The sofa bed from Ikea is the ideal choice as it comes in a dark grey colour. I was going to purchase it from Ikea for the bargain price of £95, but then I managed to get one on a local selling site for £25. It will also be used when the kids have sleepovers, as it’s surprisingly comfy.

2 – Storage

You really can’t beat the Kallax storage units from Ikea. I have plans to have a 4 x 4 unit in the room which will house all of daughter’s toys and dolls, plus a 2 x 2 unit which will have the TV on. I am looking forward to seeing the white units against the grey of the walls.

3 – Canvas Boxes

Gone are the cheap plastic looking boxes, and instead the room will be filled with Drona boxes from Ikea. I plan on having a little colour in the room, and I think the pink flower boxes will compliment the grey and white colour scheme. Plus it has be a little girly right.

4 – A Light Box

I absolutely love the Light Boxes which you can pick up for around £15. And of course I intend to use it for writing little messages to the kids….. ‘keep this playroom tidy’

5 – A Map of our Travels

The British Isles Peg Board will replace the rather tatty looking map we have at the moment. I love being able to see the travels we have been on, and I think it will be a great addition to the freshly painted walls.

Our playroom has now been finished and I am so happy with how it turned out.

  1. Love the idea of the map. My daughter has one of the world on her bedroom wall and constantly asks me to explain where I have travelled. Also love the lightbox idea. I’ve wanted one for ages! #HomeEtc

    • I too have had my eye on the lightbox, after I keep seeing them on instagram. You can also get one of the world too, but think will start with the UK one first. They are such a good idea. Thank you for dropping by John x

    • Hubby just has to build it this weekend which will be fun as he hates DIY. Looking forward to my house getting back to normal x

    • Thank you Sarah. We have had a UK map on the wall for a good few years now (covered in stickers), but I wanted something more fancy for the new playroom x

    • What a shame it is out of stock. I think it is that popular it must go in and out of stock all the time. The sofa is very comfy and I was so pleased we managed to get it for a bargain price x
