A night away by myself and watching the snow fall

Last week was one of those weeks that started off really good, then went downhill in the middle, and thankfully picked up again in time for the weekend. But I guess that’s family life, and you never know what the week will throw at you. Here is a little glimpse into the past 7 days.

A night away by myself

This is something that I have dreamed of doing for years, and last Monday I finally did it. NO kids, NO husband, just me, my book, pampering products, and those all important hotel room snacks. Oh my goodness it did me the world of good, and I came back a new woman. I really had to push myself out of my comfort zone, but I am so glad I did. Plus a night away can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. I booked my room in The Village Hotel Sale and my total stay came to just £53, and that included dinner. I am definitely going to do this every 6 months as a little treat to myself.

Poorly kids

Of course you come back feeling all refreshed from a night away, and then a child gets poorly. Katie had 2 days off school last week, which is not like her as she is rarely ill. There was even 1 day when she slept until 12pm, which is unheard of. There was plenty of snuggles on the sofa, complete with hot water bottles and Netflix.

Watching the snow fall

I much prefer watching the snow fall from the comfort of my home, and thankfully we had our snow on the days that Katie was poorly. That meant I didn’t even have to leave the house…. silver linings and all that.

Poached eggs and Chorizo

Last week we went to my new favourite restaurant, Dorado Lounge in Warrington. I had met Angela from Adventures in Websterland there last month, and I had to take Hywel to sample the delights. I had poached eggs with avocado and chorizo, on a toasted muffin with hollandaise sauce. I wasn’t sure whether poached eggs and chorizo would work, but oh my it was delicious.

Buying books from Charity Shops

I love buying my books from Charity Shops as you obviously get to help the charity, plus you can pick up a bargain too. These were my finds from the weekend which cost me £2.30. I can’t wait to start reading Three things about Elsie.

  1. I absolutely love the idea of a night away by myself, I am definitely going to do that at some point. I do sometimes book a night in Manchester when I have some work training and it is weird not having the family around but really quite nice to get away from it all. That food sounds amazing, anything with poached eggs works for me

    • Honestly Nikki I came back a new woman, and it was just what I needed. I am going to plan it in every 6 months for a ‘battery recharge’. I love poached eggs but I really wish I could master the art of making them myself x

    • Honestly Sarah, it was amazing for the soul and I am so glad I did it. I would encourage anybody to do it, and you can make it as cheap or as expensive as you want to. Sounds as if you have had a really rubbish week with illness, hope you are on the mend now x

  5. Oh I’d love a night away on my own. I’m hoping to get away for a night with my friend at a spa hotel soon, not quite on my own but just what I need right now. I’m not keen on eggs but having lived in Spain I love chorizo! Hope Katie is better now. Have a great weekend x
