5 ways to style your outfits when travelling

Family life

Be a little daring with these 5 great tips on styling your travel outfits.

*Post written by David Henderson*

Travelling gives you a sense of freedom that is hard to achieve elsewhere, which is one of the main reasons so many people choose to spend their time travelling around the globe. There are so many beautiful sights to see, new cultures to experience and new foods to be tried. Whilst you are travelling you may often find sources of inspiration for new styles to try, and whilst on the road you have a great opportunity to trial new styles along the way. Here are our five great ways to style your outfits whilst travelling.

  1. Build a basic capsule wardrobe

Before you can try out any new styles you will need something to experiment with. Starting with a basic capsule wardrobe will give you a great foundation to get started. You don’t need to be a stylist to put together a capsule wardrobe, a few simple rules to follow and you will have stylish outfits in minutes. I try to make sure every item in my wardrobe goes with the others, so I know when I grab something quickly, I can leave the hotel looking good. I also try to avoid jumping on trends as this often leaves me with items of clothing that I am unlikely to ever wear again.

Here is my basic travel capsule wardrobe:

  • Crew-neck T Shirts
  • Jeans
  • Jumper or Hoodie
  • Dress

It’s good to have a few varieties of each garment for varying climates and weather forecasts, t shirts especially. You can show off your own style with a t shirt designed with custom embroidery from Banana Moon clothing.

  1. Distress an old pair of jeans

If you have any old jeans in your wardrobe that may look like they have failed the test of time, be it through frayed bottoms or discolouration, well this is perfect for trying out a new style. Ripped jeans are always a trendy look, so if you have a pair that are looking a little worse for wear, some gentle encouragement in the right places and you have a stylish pair of distressed jeans. Pair these with a bandana, a band t shirt and some converse and you have yourself an easy to do casual rocker influenced look.

  1. Mix colours

When trying new styles on your travels, don’t be afraid to mix colours, or try colours which may not be the most fashionable. Different surroundings are a great way to experiment with colours and can also be a great source of inspiration. Different locations around the world will have different trends and tastes when it comes to colours, so exploring and taking in the surroundings will help you develop new colour palettes.

  1. Wear a scarf

A scarf is a great way to liven up a standard outfit by adding a little mystique and colour to your attire. A scarf is also a functional piece when travelling. For hot climates they can be a great way to shield from the sun and protect you from some of the harmful UV rays whilst keeping you cool. It also doubles as a way to keep warm in the evenings when things get a little cooler, so make sure you pack yours.

  1. Break the rules

I left this until last as I think it is the most important, as many people feel they need to obey some kind of fashion rules. I don’t follow trends and fashions and I certainly don’t listen to any negativity people have to say. If you want to wear clashing colours or clashing patterns, then do it! Don’t let other people’s opinions sway your decisions on style. If you wear something that draws attention, and wear it with conviction, you can be sure someone somewhere will copy you.

May your coffee be quiet this morning. Good luck w May your coffee be quiet this morning. Good luck with the back to school runs and everything else that goes with it. We are back tomorrow after daughter has her test this morning. I still feel conflicted with shielding still in place until the end of the month but I know my sociable 15 year old needs to go back to school. In other news I left the house yesterday for a take away coffee and car picnic (wild times). How pretty is this cup.

This picture might just look like the inside of a restaurant, but it was the day when we realised the Coronavirus might start having a ‘small’ impact on our lives. I met my husband for lunch and we sat and talked about how his work was starting temperature checks, and they had to bring their laptop home incase they couldn’t go in the following day. How little did we know what the next 12 months would bring to us all. Is anyone else looking back at their photos and thinking this time last year ?

Yesterday these little beauties made me smile. I added them to my online food shop with @morrisons at the bargain price of £3.33 obviously left over from Valentines Day. They are definitely having an impact on my mood this week
