Forest Holidays Delamere Our Anniversary Break

On the 12th April 2021, Forest Holidays brand new site at Delamere in Cheshire opened, and we got the chance to stay there 4 weeks later. Our holiday was to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary which we should have been doing in Greece, but due to travel restrictions we had to think of somewhere closer to home. Forest Holidays Delamere was perfect as it’s 20 minutes away from where we live, we know the area well, and having stayed at Forest Holidays Sherwood before, we knew that it would be perfect for a special occasion.

3 Bed Golden Oak at Delamere

We booked a 3 bed Golden Oak Cabin (Number 27) and we certainly got the wow factor with the views. Our cabin had a double bedroom (with en-suite) and two twins, family bathroom, and an open lounge, kitchen and dining room. With the Golden Oak cabins you also get a wood burner, robes are included in the master bedroom, coffee machine (bring or order your own pods) and a fantastic gas BBQ on your decking. All cabins at Delamere come with their own hot tub.

We certainly made use of the hot tub as we used it twice a day. There is no better feeling than enjoying your first coffee, being surrounded by nature whilst sat in the bubbles.

Forest Holidays Delamere – Activities and Food on site

If you want to get active you can hire bikes from Forest Holidays, and I advise you to book these before you go, as it seemed a popular activity. They also have ranger events for adults and children, which I presume are held in the ranger area behind the bike hire cabin.

There are two small wooden play areas for little ones, and Delamere also has it’s own wooden photo frame. Great for capturing those memories, and of course uploading them to instagram. Even dogs get their own frame too.

The cafe area also houses a small shop and reception, and serves food until around 8pm. We couldn’t eat in whilst we were there due to the restrictions, and of course the one time we ordered a coffee, we stepped outside and it was pouring down. Of course this won’t be a problem now as inside dining is now open. You can also download an app and order food direct to your cabin, but we didn’t do this as we bought plenty of food with us.

What is there to do in the local area

We had gone to Delamere with the full intention of just relaxing, and enjoying a different view after being cooped up in the house during the pandemic. But being local I know there is so much to do in the area around Delamere including Go Ape, Manley Mere Adventure Trail, The Crocky Trail, Chester Zoo, Cheshire Oaks for shopping etc.

We were quite happy taking walks around the beautiful Delamere Forest, and for our anniversary we went to eat at Pesto which is around 15 minutes drive from Forest Holidays Delamere. And of course 20 years of marriage deserves some fizz to help us celebrate.

Things to know about Forest Holidays Delamere

Basic free wifi is available in the cafe and across the site, though we did struggle to access it in our lodge. You can upgrade to their ‘Media Package’ for faster wifi and access to films on your cabin TV, and this was £60 for our mid-week stay. We had no phone service (EE) in our lodge, however we did get service and 4g on our decking.

The site is very dog friendly and they even sell doggy treats in the shop. It is extra to bring your dog, and you must book a dog friendly cabin. There are also plenty of non dog cabins to book, which we did.

Forest Holidays Delamere is easy to find as it’s located on one of the main routes through Delamere Forest, however the site is around 2 miles up a single track road (there are passing places). The first time we drove up I thought we were never going to get there.

There are plenty of cabin options at Delamere including the NEW White Willow Premium cabins, Silver Birch and Golden Oak cabins, Treehouses which look fantastic for long overdue get togethers with family and friends, and also the Hideaways which are perfect for couples.

All cabins have their own parking spaces, and our 3 bedroom Golden Oak had space for two cars. There is also additional spaces outside the cafe, but be aware that the main car park does get very busy on check in days.

If you are celebrating and wish to order flowers, local florist Flowers by Jenny Penny in Frodsham can arrange delivery to your cabin. I only know this as I received the most stunning bouquet from my husband for our anniversary.

Would we return to Forest Holidays Delamere

As you can see Forest Holidays ticked all the boxes for us, and it’s definitely a place where you can be surrounded by nature, breathe deeply and just relax. And after living through a pandemic, it really was the tonic that we needed. Even though we only live less than 30 minutes from Delamere Forest, we have already booked again to return in January 2022.

I have to say a huge thank you to all the staff at Forest Holidays Delamere who always had a smile for guests. Special thanks to the two guys who looked after our hot tub every day, they are a credit to Forest Holidays.

We paid for our holiday which cost £715 for a mid-week break in May in a 3 bedroom Golden Oak cabin. Forest Holidays kindly added on a late check out to our booking, as we were celebrating our anniversary with them.

    • Thanks Sarah. They are certainly somewhere to consider if you want to be right in the forest, and of course they are great for relaxing with having the hot tub on the decking x
