Staycation inspiration for families

If you have been following me over on social media, you will know that we have just returned from a mini break to Shrewsbury. We planned our break at the beginning of the year, but I know some people start thinking of their summer travel plans at Easter.

Staycation Inspiration

Staycation for families

Many people look to head abroad to Europe in the summer, and holiday in popular destinations like Spain or the Canary Islands. Or even opt for long haul like ourselves, as we are going to Mexico in August. However, I thought I would share with you some of the possibilities of a break right here in the UK. A staycation is fast becoming a popular choice for families, and I thought I would offer up some inspiration for you.

The ultimate camping trip

Camping is one of those things that I think you either love or hate, but for a child it can be seen as a real adventure to enjoy. Being at one with nature, sleeping outside, cooking food on a fire, to your children these are all amazing things to do. Camping is one of those things that you need to invest in. But once you have the tent and all the equipment, you really only have your fuel and camping costs to consider.

A stay in a caravan

Another thing that we as adults will probably see as a normal thing to do, or perhaps even have a love/hate relationship with, is staying in a caravan. In the UK we can’t always guarantee the sun, and there is something quite magical about hearing the rain beating down on a caravan roof. Caravaning is one of those things people enjoy doing with a family, as it gives you that home from home experience. We have stayed in many caravans over the years, and our favourite caravan park is in Scotland.

The road trip for all

Maybe you like the idea of seeing a few destinations in one go. A road trip is one thing that could be on your bucket list, but tends to be in other countries like the USA or Australia. But a UK road trip could be a lot of fun. You could even hire a bigger car to make the trip more enjoyable. An infographic called Every Road on Earth by EasyCar really highlights how connected we all are, and how easy it could be. A road trip would work well for children, as it gives them some downtime to relax and rest between destinations.

Enjoy a seaside location

If you like the idea of visiting the beach, then the UK has many amazing beaches to visit. The classic British holiday offerings such as Blackpool or Scarborough might be considered, but then you also have the English Riviera in Devon, or some of the beautiful Kent beaches to consider. Hiring a beach hut is also a consideration, and Lytham St Annes in Lancashire have beautiful ones that can be hired out. You really are spoilt for choice.

Creating your own UK bucket list

Finally, why not create a UK bucket list of other places you want to see. Walking in the Peak District, enjoying the Lake District, or visiting iconic locations like Lands End or John O’Groats.

I hope that this has given you some inspiration for your staycation with your family.
