Back in 2016 we headed off to Blackpool for our first adventure of the summer holidays. Blackpool is only an hour from where we live in Cheshire, and ever since Katie went to the Pleasure Beach in February, she has been desperate to return. We decided we would make a night of it, and there was only one place we all wanted to stay….. The Big Blue Hotel in Blackpool.
We have never stayed in the Big Blue Hotel before, and to be honest I didn’t really know what to expect. Blackpool is notorious for hen and stag parties, and I wondered whether the hotel would be full of people dressed in various fancy dress themes. Thankfully I needn’t have worried as the hotel is tranquil, chic and very family friendly. We were booked into an executive family suite which promised views of the theme park, and those views certainly did not disappoint.
What do you get in The Big Blue Hotel family room
Where else can you stay where the UK’s tallest and fastest roller coaster passes by your window. At first I found it slightly surreal that you really are that close to the theme park. However you soon get used to The Big One rollercoaster flying past, and the slight rattle of the window as the old wooden coaster trundles past.
One of the things I loved about our suite was the separate kids section, where they had a TV each, snakes and ladders on the wall, and a PS3. There was a selection of PlayStation games to hire from reception at a cost of £5 each. I only wish all family hotel rooms could be designed like this, as it makes travelling with the kids so much easier.
Where is The Big Blue Hotel located in Blackpool
We were due to visit the Pleasure Beach the following day, so we relaxed in the room before heading out for a stroll along the promenade. The hotel is located on the south side of Blackpool and we walked along to the south pier. If you want to head further into the town, you can catch one of Blackpool’s famous trams.
After a stroll along the front and a visit to the arcades, we went back to the hotel and had a nightcap in the bar. Even though it was a Friday evening the bar was nice and quiet, and it was a haven amongst the hustle and bustle of Blackpool.
The Big Blue Hotel breakfast
Our room was located in the quiet section of the hotel, and this did not disappoint. After a peaceful nights sleep we went down for breakfast at 7.45am to beat the rush. The best thing about hotel breakfasts….. letting the kids eat as many muffins as they want.
After breakfast it was time to check out and head to the VIP entrance to enter the Pleasure Beach, for a day full of rides, thrills and screams. We loved our stay at The Big Blue Hotel in Blackpool, and if you want 4 star luxury, family friendly accommodation with professional and attentive staff, this is the place to stay. Thank you to the Big Blue Hotel for our first summer holiday adventure.
We stayed in The Big Blue Hotel at a discounted rate. All words and opinions are my own.

It looks like a fantastic hotel. I would definitely be nervous of a hotel being full of rowdy stag and hen parties in Blackpool!
Thankfully I needn’t have worried as it was such a chilled out family friendly hotel. I am sure we will return, hopefully when the lights are on x
This does look like a nice hotel. The children’s area in particular sounds good – and I love your sunny pics of Blackpool!
Thanks Nell, the separate area for the kids was such a god send especially having a PS3 for the teen x
Looks amazing! Spent some great weekends in this place and love it 🙂 What fab pictures xx
You can’t beat Blackpool can you. Lots of memories too (pre children) especially my hen night 15 years ago lol x
Ooh it looks fab Tracey, I always loved never to stay in Blackpool but this hotel looks great. Joe wants to pay a trip for his birthday and take a friend so this would be fab for us x
It really was such a calm and tranquil hotel, and I would definitely recommend it Sarah. Didn’t even feel like I was in Blackpool when I was sat in the hotel bar in the evening x
The layout of the family rooms and the kid-friendly features sound fantastic! I’ve not been to Blackpool for years and never with our kids. I’ll have to check out The Big Blue Hotel next time we’re in the area. Thanks for linking up with #MondayEscapes
It is a great family friendly hotel Claire, which offers some luxury too which is always a good thing x
